Paul - winning the award for bing a luthier who thinks like an improviser!! Always take the risk man! Both of the new ideas in this thread are amazing! I'd love to try the Blue guitar - Question - is a selmer top or a carved top?
Also, re-soundhole insert and PU - Blanket is too heavy - just use a Balloon - blown up inside so it contacts the top and back of the guitar, after the gig just pop to remove. I carry them in my guitar cases when Touring - as It prevents a lot of feedback in very loud situations (and then I just use a Krivo).
Travis' new guitar is killing by the by. Was tempting me quite a bit . . . lol!
That's interesting!! I was thinking about having an inflatable air bag inside the guitar. I hadn't thought of balloons!
I'm actually going to stay with Travis on Sunday, if you're around I'll have the blue guitar and the oval hole I took to Paris. And a crazy 7 string classical I made too.
Blue guitar is basically the same as the Big Bouche thing I've been making. It has some carbon fiber on the braces, that's a new thing. But otherwise the same. 3 brace, thin top, high arch. Structured sides.
Whatever my guitars sound like, this one sounds the most like that. Very very loud, really clear nice tone. I might like it the best so far.
No tbh I don't really love the bridge (or the headstock). But I love the overall guitar a ton.
Also no need for an adjustable bridge when you have an adjustable neck. Adjustable neck is far superior because you can keep your ideal bridge height and tension and adjust the strings to that.
Spruce doesn't take dye that well. The grain has these undulations and on each grain line part of it will accept the dye and part of it will reject it. If you spray the dye it will probably be smoother but I don't have spray equipment. So it's hand rubbed.
I messed with it a lot, putting more dye on and then taking it off. I never did it before....initially it was too heavy and too blue. I also did some layers with a sort of honey amber and that gives it the "Blue Burst" thing.

I wanted to do the end of the fingerboard like that but for various reasons didn't do it. Now I am annoyed I didn't!
Next one maybe.
This is pretty much my fav guitar of all time and it has been since I saw it in the Art Of the Guitar exhibit in Boston I think in 1999.
@bbwood_98 @paulmcevoy75 I've done a balloon inside the body experiment a few years back. In short, it works pretty well.
And yes, of course, no need to adjust the bridge when you can adjust the neck, I forgot for a moment...
This is just two empty halves of coconuts you’re banging together.
How did you get that pattern on the blue top? Pretty cool.
