MP3: F.A. Swing
FGM Records announces the release of Franco-American Swing John Jorgenson’s long awaited Gypsy jazz release. Jorgenson is best known as a founding member of the Desert Rose Band, for his dazzling fretwork with the super guitar trio The Hellecasters, from his six-year stint as a member of Elton John’s band, and his session work with a diverse range of artists including rock icons Elton John, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Seger, country legends Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Emmy Lou Harris and Hank Williams Jr. , and international superstars like Barbara Streisand and Luciano Pavarotti.
Even though he has made his living playing primarily rock, country, and pop music John’s love for jazz and swing music dates back to his youth when his father, James, was conducting Benny Goodman. John, who idolized Goodman, actually got to play with his hero while his father led the way. As accomplished on clarinet as he is on guitar, Jorgenson’s first swing recording “After You’ve Gone” was a tribute to both his heroes, Django Reinhardt and Benny Goodman. Released in 1985, John played Django style Gypsy jazz on the first side of the LP and recreated the sound of the Benny Goodman Quintet, playing both Charlie Christian’s electric guitar parts and Goodman’s swinging clarinet style, on the other.
In the world of Gypsy jazz music, John Jorgenson has long been know as one of the best American masters of the Django Reinhardt guitar style. In 2002, when the musical director for John Duigan’s film “Head In The Clouds” was looking for someone who could faithfully re-record two tracks from the Quintet of the Hot Club of France for use in the film “Guitar Player Magazine” editor Micheal Molenda recommended Jorgenson. John not only transcribed and recorded the Hot Club’s “Blue Drag” and “Minor Swing” for use in the film, he also played the role of Django Reinhardt in the movie. The film, which stars Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz, is scheduled for release by Sony Classic Pictures in September 2004.
Although the two songs from the movie soundtrack are included on Jorgenson’s new CD, the disc primarily features his original music. Jorgenson says, “My goal in making this CD was not only to be as true to the style as an American can be, but also to expand the style by adding new compositions and including orchestral arrangements which are the result of an on-going creative collaboration with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. My background in classical music and my experience playing rock and pop music can’t help but color my compositions and lend an accessibility that can be rare in jazz.”

He’s here! Aidan David Horowitz, born on July 8th weighing 5lbs 14oz. Little guy heard my Favino guitar nearly every day in the womb….figured I’d start him early!

For those of you who ordered the week of July 5th, I apologize for the delay in mailing your orders. We were a little busy that week!

This is the second volume of the celebrated Bickford Mandolin Method. An excellent way to improve your rest stroke picking technique (i.e. Gypsy Picking) on the mandolin.
Table of Contents
Like the first volume, there is heavy emphasis on learning the rest stroke picking technique. Bickford has analyzed this technique in great detail. He explains many of the virtuosic techniques possible with rest strokes: Gliding (or sweep picking), various tremolo effects, alternate strokes, string crossing techniques, etc.
Mandolinists with a background in bluegrass and celtic music will be pleased to find numerous hornpipes, reels, and jigs throughout the book (with picking notation).

The BASS subwoofer is the perfect complement to UNICO
or DAVID
for enhancing the performance of acoustic instruments producing strong
bass frequencies such as double bass, acoustic bass guitar, cello, etc.
This application activates the low cut feature on the UNICO or DAVID so
as to have BASS fully reproduce bass!
Combined with two SIDE
or PUB
280 units and thanks to its active stereophonic separation, it
provides the proper foundation for your PA system (e.g., the OPERA mixer with
two SIDE active loudspeakers and one BASS). The bipolar 200W RMS and
the traditional power supply featuring a toroidal transformer ensure a
controlled and extremely accurate and powerful bass reproduction.
Thanks to its compact design and efficient circuitry, BASS
delivers incredible low end in a very portable package.
- 200W RMS, active bass subwoofer
- 1-way
- 15.5 Kg – 32x36x38 cm

SIDE has been conceived and developed
as an extension for the SCHERTLER
UNICO or as a stand-alone active loudspeaker system, using the same
high-quality components and circuitry.
From inputs to loudspeakers, all aspects of SIDE were selected for
their natural and accurate response. As in UNICO, two power amps with
an active crossover supply 150W to the 8″ woofer and 35 watts to the 1″
dome tweeter. The result is velvety, clear harmonics with a controlled,
strong low end (down to 40 Hz). The technology of biamplification
produces a very transparent sound as well as providing maximum
efficiency by properly matching amplifiers to loudspeakers.
