Hey guys, here is the latest video of my 4tet, with guest Noe Codjia on trumpet instead of Guillaume Singer on violin. I like both, it just gives a different colour. How do you like it? This year i'll try to post a new video per month on this channel so make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss the new stuff. Cheers

Nice Romain! Not too brassy, not too loud.
Looking forward to more of your videos. 😊
vraiment chouette, tout est parfaitement calibré !
Love it! I think trumpet is underused in our style. Every time I heard Storro Limberger play, I was sold. Keep it up. This is good. Django was inspired by Armstrong. No reason the music wouldn't be compatible. As you say, it gives it a different color.
Hey thanks ! i ve actually put a longer set (25 minutes) in case you haven t seen it yet :
Thanks, indeed Noe is using the mute sometimes so the volume difference isn t too high
Hey merci, j'adore varier et parfois avoir une trompette ou même une clarinette
Your trumpet player plays well and very tasteful. The band sounds great.
I agree trumpet is under-utilized in this style, especially considering how much stuff Django ripped off from Louis Armstrong!
Thanks Wim !!
Maybe it sounds to you as kitsch if I say this but my favourite "other" style of jazz other than gypsy jazz is Chet Baker and what do you call it, cool jazz I think it is right. So I like trumpet. I've transcribed a couple of Chet's songs on my guitar but it doesn't really work on the gypsy guitar. One would need an electric guitar with a compressor effect or something to be able to emulate the long notes. But I'm all for trumpet in jazz and it fits your tunes alright!
Sounding great Romain
Some of my absolute favourite recordings are the Django/Coleman Hawkins/Benny Carter (1937 according to Michael Dregni) session which has some great horn playing on it by Rex Stewart & Arthur Briggs (my ears aren't good enough to work out if Carter's on horn or reeds, Grapelli on piano on some tracks too) and the one with Dicky Wells which is a mix of Django and Chaput - I believe this was also recorded around the late 30s when Teddy Hill's band toured Europe (if so another time history really missed an opportunity to record Django with Dizzy Gillespie).
Absolutely adore that combo of pre-war/amplification paris guitar style and brass and really like the results here too!
Joonas can you use any of Django's tricks (tremolo/vibrato/octaves & chord stabs etc) to emulate the sustain & feel of those Chet Baker long notes? I think a lot of those aspects of his playing came out of trying to emulate the sustain and strain/physicality of a horn right?
