Replacement Strings

Many Gypsies such as Stochelo and Jimmy Rosenberg use extra light strings (10-45) but swap the E (10) and B (14) for an 11 and 15. This gives you a fatter sound on the treble strings while still maintaining a supple feel on the bass strings.

DjangoBooks 2005

Happy New Year everyone! DjangoBooks.Com has now been operating for over two years. Thanks to all of you who have supported my publishing endeavor. Sales of strings, picks, CDs, eLessons, eBooks, Schertler products, and of course, books, have helped to pay the rent and keep me focused on documenting the music of Django Reinhardt as best I can. I can’t say how pleased I am to see so many players who have learned to play authentic Gypsy jazz through the study of my books. Even just a few years ago you could count the number of American Gypsy jazz guitarists on one hand. Fortunately that is no longer the case. It seems like everyday I hear of yet another Gypsy jazz band sprouting up in the most unlikely of places. I feel really fortunate to be part of this vigorous revival of Django’s music. So, again, thanks!

We now have a video archive which is dedicated to surviving video of Django as well as that of contemporary masters such as Stochelo Rosenberg, Angelo Debarre, Boulou Ferré, etc. The video archive is dedicated to Mary Honcoop. She generously shared her large collection of Gypsy videos with nearly anyone who asked. The video archive aims to continue her generosity now that she is gone. Enjoy!

I’m now importing a large number of Gypsy jazz CDs from Europe. We currently have titles by Boulou Ferré, Biréli Lagrène, Martin Taylor, Fapy Lafertin, Rodolphe Raffalli, and Andreas Öberg. Additionally, I’m now carrying the excellent Integral Django Reinhardt collection which is produced by Fremaux. It is by far the best quality Django collection available. Also check out the newly expanded selection of CDs by North American and other non-European Gypsy jazz groups.

I’m now importing the entire line of Galli Gypsy jazz strings. Galli strings, which are made in Italy, are the most popular alternative to the classic Argentine strings. Additionally, I now carry John Pearse Nuages strings.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
