Guitarist and bandleader Victor Horky invites Christiaan van Hemert to bring to life the swingin’ Gypsy jazz compositions of Django Reinhardt, jazz standards, and Christiaan’s own compositions for the listening and dancing pleasure of the guests at the Royal Room.
Christiaan is one of the premier violinists in the current Gypsy jazz scene and often performs as a guest of the Rosenberg Trio and alongside Stochelo Rosenberg in different groups. He has played with countless high profile Gypsy jazz artists among which are Mozes Rosenberg, Paulus Schafer, Joscho Stefan, Fapy Lafertin, Tchavolo Schmitt, Roby Lakatos, Remi Harris, Gary Potter and many others.

If you’ve never danced at the Triple Door, there is a large open area next to the stage with a smooth floor suitable for dancing, especially with proper shoes. Our tempos will with focus on up-tempo balboa speeds with a sprinkle of ballads. We also take tempo requests any time.
There’s no cover at the Musicquarium, but please tip the band and enjoy the food and drink!

Last session, we had Douglas Martin jamming with the group, EML gypsy picks for people to demo, and covered “Dark Eyes” and “Daphne”. This next session will feature the head of artists relations from Saga presenting their Gitane guitars, as well as 5 Saga Gypsy guitars to demo, including the original prototype for the Gitane DG-500. We will also cover “Lady Be Good”, and “Swing Gitane” with special emphasis on chordal cliches that show up in those tunes and other gypsy standards.
The next meeting is St. Pattie’s day, March the 17th, from 1-3 @ Keith Holland Guitars in Los Gatos CA.

Jackie and Tovi recently arrived from Alaska, where they led the group Swing 49. Jackie’s soulful and improvisational singing made her a finalist at the 2017 Seattle Jazz Vocalist Competition. Tovi studied classical and jazz guitar at the University of Alaska–he plays hard-swinging rhythm and lithe, playful solos.
The concert will feature music from Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” repertoire of swing standards and traditional Gypsy melodies.

Django a Gogo™ Music Camp is a first-class music program providing musicians of all levels and instruments access to the greatest knowledge and teachers available. The program focuses mainly on the musical style of Django Reinhardt (referred to as “Gypsy Jazz” in the USA). The goal of this camp is for students to learn from all the teachers and performers of the festival in an intimate small group setting, or workshops.
