Dull Sounding low E string

ChiefbigeasyChiefbigeasy New Orleans, LA✭✭✭ Dupont MDC 50; The Loar LH6, AJL Silent Guitar

I often go a long time between string changes, but I've noticed that even with a new set, my low E string sounds not as lively as the others, especially when new. It can't be too many things affecting the tone--bridge, nut, string height. Can't seem to figure out what's causing it. This is happening on my generally sweet-sounding Dupont MDC50

Any ideas?

Do some troubleshooting, put A string in place of low E and low E in place of A. Flip the bridge around or even better use a different bridge...these things might give you some clues.
