My Birthday Concert With Birèli Lagrène in Rome..

Dario Napoli · 12:36AM

Last week I played Villa Medici in Rome as the opening act for Birèli Lagrène. I’ve been listening to this man since I was a kid. I documented the whole weekend because I knew it would be a milestone regardless of what happened. What I didn’t know is that it would end the way it did. I’ll let the video finish the sentence:

Thanks for sharing the story, Dario! We're all fans of the music; even someone at your level. It's great to see what one can do with determination (and perspiration!). The music inspires us all, no matter what level we are at, and we are all one under it's power. Congrats to you and many more happy years to come! Tanti auguri!

Buon compleanno Dario! Un bel regalo avere Bireli quel giorno! Complimenti vivissimi!

I watched the video last night, Dario. It's really fantastic, the playing and the vibe and the message.

I'm somewhat, dare I say, similar in that I'm working on reaching for higher level of musicianship. Only, I started about 20 years after you.

Happy birthday and I wish you much future success.

Thank you so much my friend! Each of us have our own individual path and there are an infinite variety of variables which as we know can determine or influence how "far" we go, whatever that means for each person individually. All I know is that if in early 2000s someone had told me I'd be playing with Bireli I wouldn't have believed them...it was never an actual goal, but it was a strong desire and a TON of applied and focused work over the years, blocking out all the noise from outside..
