Amazing ! Thanks for trying the feature !

Making vidéos Always take time for sure, here you take it to explain the context and show a bit how to work on it, giving examples. Love it :).

    Here's the link to @Buco 's lick : https://www.haute-gitanerie.com/lick/lick:2b7bc9a0-3134-41ce-a457-480e327234ac

And finally, a link to Marta Sierra who tagged some of her videos to try the creator stuff a little bit more :

I just saw it, thanks for the heads up. It works well for the arpeggio grids, sadly not working at all for chord grips but actually the arpeggios are what I wanted to see the most anyway.

I already saw something I hadn't noticed before thanks to this: +7 arpeggios are entirely made up of big "diagonals" in the fretboard vision. e.g. this is G+7:

I'd known about the 3rd and b7 diagonals before (from diminished arpeggios) and also the R, 3rd, #5 diagonals (from augmented triads and whole-tone scales) but never quite clicked that the dom7#5 grid is just those two diagonals put together. Pretty cool!

btw @axel as an aside it's a bit strange for this grid to have b6 indicated in the arpeggios. Most people would think of those Eb notes in a G7#5 as D sharp i.e. the #5. Even the "augmented" word in "augmented seventh chord" actually refers to an augmented 5th interval, isn't it?

Nice catch, you're right, that was a ♭6 where it should read ♯5 (the augmented fifth). Fixed, and I credited you on the contributors page 🙏

And your observation nails it: the dom7♯5 grid really is just the two diagonals stacked, the 3rd/♭7 one (from the diminished arpeggio) and the R/3/♯5 one (from the augmented triad / whole-tone).

I'm super happy to build this as.. i didn't know that aswell, and will probably forget as i've so much to catch up theory wise 😂😂 .

That "clicking" from seeing it on the neck is exactly what I built the thing for, love that it did that for you !

@axel Thank you for the fast fix. You may want to review some of the other arpeggios- there are a few other places where the enharmonic choices were strange, for example on Cm7b5 ("half diminished") we see:

I have a couple of points to mention here.

If you consider Cm7b5 to be built upon C Locrian (seventh mode of major scale) then the scale is C Db Eb F Gb Ab Bb, and the arpeggio is C Eb Gb (not F#) Bb.

However, some jazz musicians might prefer to think of an m7b5 as built from the sixth mode of melodic minor (which would give a natural 2 not a flat 2), or perhaps second mode of harmonic minor. It depends a lot on context, because m7b5 is used many ways in gypsy jazz - as I'm sure you know it can be a Im6 or a ii-chord or even a rootless dominant.

Is the project hosted on GitHub somewhere? Some of my suggestions might be easier to communicate in a pull-request.

Fixed thanks again, @wim . The scale strip now spells by degree, so Cm7♭5 reads C D♭ E♭ F G♭ A♭ B♭, and the arpeggio's ♭5 is a G♭, not F♯. It spells each degree onto its own letter, so a flat context stays flat and a raised fifth stays sharp.

And you're spot on about the parent scale, I'm treating C Locrian as just the default lens for m7♭5, not the truth. Since in gypsy jazz it flips between a Im6, a ii, and a rootless dominant, the "right" scale really is contextual (Locrian ♭2 vs melodic-minor's natural 2). Offering alternate parent scales per context is on my list rather than pretending there's one answer.

Thanks for your knowledge, again I almost don't know anything about theory, I'm trusting online resources to implement even if for now it doesn't stick in my head (the app is made for the latter concern).

On GitHub: it's a private monorepo right now (it's got a bunch of half-baked product stuff in it), so I can't take PRs into it as-is. It's this way because I'm considering a paid offer, even if everything that's free now will stay free for obvious reasons I didn't open it yet.

But honestly the pure music-theory + data layer is a clean, self-contained package with none of that, and splitting it out as its own open repo is something I'm seriously considering, precisely because that's where corrections like yours live. Until then, your forum posts are the perfect format. I read every one and fold them in (with credit). You've made the engine more correct twice now; that's exactly the kind of ear I was hoping this would attract 🙏.

    How does it look ?

They look good now except for a couple of things in the "Augmented 7" quality. The mouse-hover event on the #5 note of a C7#5, for example, still calls it an Ab (should be G#) and the scale diagram below it still highlights the b6 (Ab) as a chord tone (should be #5 instead).

Oh I'll look into that !

I added something after your feedback, if you send another one i'll get more information about your device and hopefully it'll help me a bit more. Thanks again for your feedback !

Also, added a screen / hint when phone is sent in silence on iPhone, just in case.

Apps are currently in review in app stores :) (Android / iOs), should be out in a few days (at least 4 for official launch) ! Thanks a lot everyone, the journey is not finished but that's a huge upcoming milestone for me 😍
