Oh, I thought that was intentional! Well, maybe it was just your creative subconscious mind working overtime. 😂

Yeah, one of my travel hacks (i fly a lot) is “When they call Group 1, the machine doesnt check if you’re Group 1” lol

Not sure what airline you are flying, but I think it is American which does give a scan/beep if you are in the wrong group. Maybe it always has and its just been gate attendant discretion? Well, they've been turning people back recently.

Not too long ago I noticed a story about airlines cracking down on group-boarding line jumpers. Can't recall which airlines or where I read it, since I look at five on-line editions every day. I'm sure it's Googleable.

When I flew to DFNW earlier this year, the gate attendants announced on the overhead speakers that your boarding passes would not even scan if you're in a different boarding group than the one being called, so don't try it. They mentioned this two or three times.

I did not try to jump groups, so I don't know if they're just bluffing. I was still able to find overhead space for my Barault even in boarding group 4 or 5.

This was with American Airlines in September.

In Paris I did my serious face ask and they let me board with group 2 despite my broke ass economy ticket.

All was going great until I scanned my pass and then I ended up getting picked for a random security check. The guy pulled everything out of my guitar case, which was stuffed with socks and underwear and books as I watched everyone walk by me.

The bigger part of the joke though was that at CDG the last two times I was there they make you go to the gate like you're going to board the plane and then, SURPRISE! you get on a bus that drives like 10 minutes to the plane. It seemed like everyone from every boarding group was probably mixed up on the bus, at least the first 3.

The bus was pretty grueling. I feel bad for old people on there.

When I landed at CDG they didn't let us off the plane for 45 minutes, maybe waiting for the bus. Not the world's funnest airport, unfortunately.

If there's an open luggage compartment I get my guitar and bag in it as quickly as possible and slam it shut.

Paul--Curious about boarding an aircraft at de Gaulle. Once you're at the plane, how do you get aboard? Is there another jetway or do you have to climb up a boarding ramp, the way we had to fifty years ago? Last time I had to board that way it was a puddle-jumper out of Orlando, from the gates that don't have jetways.

Yeah, we flew out of CDG a few years back. I seem to remember it was bus out to the aircraft, then climb the stairs. They might have had both front and back doors open too to facilitate speedier boarding.

    Yeah climbing the boarding ramp.

I hate saying this, but I'm 50 and my knees are intermittently terrible. I had a good spell for a couple months but somehow on the plane to Paris they went into shit mode and I was somewhat screwed up the whole trip. Carrying my guitar and bag up the boarding ramp stairs kinda sucked.

I felt really bad for the old people though. Like the old old. I'm like young old.

As much as I love Paris more than I can explain and feel more at home there than anywhere, CDG is kind of a shit hole.

The gate-is-actually-a-bus bait and switch is kinda funny.
