Let's try something new, a twist on the old monthly trivia question, and see if folks like it--
For those that still listen to rock music (I do occasionally), or used to enjoy it, what's your favorite rock band? Try to post only 1, and repeats are fine. I'll get it started and we'll see where it goes:
Credence Clearwater Revival.

Well now, I have a love of melodic psychedelic pop, but am extremely picky about what I like. 99.5% of the stuff I trawl through I don't like, but my hours of trawling can dig up a few gems every now and then. I could mention ten people that I'm overjoyed with, but I'll go for just the one as that's what you've asked for!
Here's Mike Viola. This tune and album were out last year. I've loved Mike since discovering him in about 2006, and was lucky he came to Glasgow recently and played a very intimate gig in a tiny club - about ten people there. Had a few beers with him afterwards!!!
My the way Mike, tell me a few classic Creedence songs for me to listen to please. I know Have You Ever Seen The Rain, but only because another favourite band of mine, Kula Shaker, covered it.
Stones, Exile era
More recently
Tame Impala
Khruangbin
Mike may have his personal faves, but I'll be honest and say pretty much the whole Chronicle album (greatest hits), is one of the few greatest hits albums that lives up to its name. They are pretty much the "sound of the Vietnam generation." Seems every director plays "Fortunate Son" if they are doing a Vietnam montage. If you like Have You Ever Seen the Rain, then "Someday Never Comes" is worth a listen.
FREE, because I used to be very impressed by Paul Rodgers.
The Police.
Wow, favorite rock band?? That's tough. I'm with Paul on the Stones or at least Aftermath through Goat's Head...Tame Impala for modern as well, although only his first 2-3 albums.
But I gotta go with Zeppelin...setting aside Coda, I can't think of another band where I'm good with listening to every album from start-to-finish through their entire recording career. That's why I can't go with the Beatles, for all of their genius there's just too many songs I don't like (primarily Paul's if I'm being honest...not to get that debate going haha).
Honorary mentions off the top of my head, although I'm not sure if "rock" fits well as a primary genre for some:
FNM
AIC/Mad Season
Bowie
Shellac
The Clash
Radiohead
Stereolab
GYBE
Deerhoof
RATM
Phish (yeah, I suck)
Wishbone Ash ~ album "Argus", with the great twin lead guitarists Andy Powell and Ted Turner....classic!
This guy is like the Duved of The Rolling Stones.
QHCF - their guitarist rocks!
