I have a Michael Dunn custom built guitar that is built as a classic guitar but with a mid'size D hole. AS per his usual Michael did a great job of building a beautiful light and responsive instrument. My problem is that I don't really like the sound of nylon strings when used with a pick.

In a moment of inspired desperation I ordered a set of Thomastik Classic steel strings. KF110 Flatwound steel strings constructed by Thomastik-Infeld of Austria. I am absolutely amazed at the sound. All strings are flatwound steel except for the 1st (yes even a wound b)

They correctly intonate at all points on the fretboard and are very evenly balanced both lengthwise and across. Played fingerstyle I no longer need fingernails to get a crisp attack and picked they are amazing. The pull on a 660mm scale is about 95 lbs .. pretty evenly distributed around 15.5 lbs except for the first string which is about 13.5 lbs tension

I took the guitar over to Michael last week to get some adjustments made. He was so impressed he is going to try them on an Ultrafox. Anyway, FWIW, for any of you using a classic style guitar or wish to get perhaps a fuller more balanced tone on a longer scale GJ definitely worth a try. I got mine a juststrings.com for $19 plus shipping a set.

For reference If I recall correctly (a problem at my age) the standard Argentine 11-4? set pulls around 130 lbs on a standard long scale GJ guitar

My own guitar is a Takamine classical, I bought the Tomastiks you mention because I hate tying nylon strings to the bridge. They give my guitar a good loud, crisp tone. If I ever end up with a Selmac of some kind those strings will at least be worth a try. Kind of expensive but they last about 3x longer than Savarez nylon strings for me.

I bought my Jesus Jurado nylon string Maccaferri last year and wanted to get a crisper sound.
I got a set of the Thomastik Kr 116-wound nylon version, similar to the KF 110.
They give a wonderful sound. I'll try the other style next.
The LaBella 860 set with wound B & G are also worth trying, much better
than the usual high tension nylons.
