Dupont MDC60

Hey, I'm new to the forum, hoping to learn a lot here!

I have some questions regarding the Dupont MD/MDC 60.

How does the MD60 compare to the MD50? I can't really find much info on it. Are they in a similar quality range? So far I've only gathered that the 60 has a matte finish and the 50 is gloss.

I'm asking because I can buy one second hand for a decent price, a MDC60, grande bouche. I had a MD50 in the past, but I had to sell it back then because I needed money and I really regret that...

I can't comment on the MD60 directly but I have an MD50 and have played two others. I have also played 2 MD100s and I also own a nomade D hole. My impression is that they are all very consistent and you probably won't be disappointed with the MD60. I would say if you have a chance to play it and you like it go for it.

    EDIT: nice description here. https://www.djangobooks.com/Item/dupont-md60-2018

This is just my vague understanding but the basic design is shared between the main models, the more expensive they are, the better and/or aged woods are used, more ornate construction, trim etc...and as you noticed gloss vs matte finish and so on... Can you try it? That'll tell you more than descriptions and differences explanations.

A retailer of Dupont guitars once told me that the different models are constructed for different applications in mind. So, the MD 100 is constructed for rhythm playing, the MD 50 is constructed for lead playing and the MD 60 is for both.

The retailer is highly respected and has close contact to Maurice, but I'm not sure where that came from. Perhaps from Maurice himself. I'm also not convinced that the retailer believed that claim at all. So, IDK 😅

I played various MD 100s, MD 50s, MD 60s and VRs and I could not observe any differences in application characteristics. I mean playing rhythm on a MD 50 wasn't any different than playing rhythm on a MD 100. So I doubt that there are any differences, construction-wise. But this is, of course, anecdotal reference.

What I observed was that some Duponts were excellent and some were utter crap. Build quality was superb but some were sounding questionable. At least to me.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love my MD 100 and it is still among the top 3 of the best guitars I ever had in my hands, but I would not buy a Dupont blind without any testing. These are just my two cents.
