I'm in a new project and I'm experimenting with gear for our live set. We probably won't play too many bar gigs and trying to get on stages with at least some small PA setups. Today I set up my RCF Jvox tower speaker to see what we sound like through it. I was using my DPA 4099 into a mixer and that sounded great. The other guitar player plugged his Carlos piezo into the mixer and we struggled to get a good sound. Honestly the Carlos sounded pretty terrible. Brittle highs that we struggled to eq out. We then inserted a RedEye acoustic preamp in between the carlos and the mixer and they difference was night and day. It was honestly shocking. Made the Carlos sound really good through the RCF tower speaker. I think with the right preamp pedal the Carlos is pretty usable straight into the PA. Just throwing this out there if someone is in a similar situation.

With any contact pickup, I think a preamp is a must. Good luck with your project, post some stuff!
