I can think of at least two occasions at Django in June where instructions thought they sucked. One of them was playing a mini duet concert. We were all hollering because the guy is a legendary name in the genre but I could tell from his face that he thought it sucked. By his own standards. Another guy, I caught up with in Saturday morning, me going to the coffee shop and him going to town to get presents for his kids. We talked about the Friday night show and he thought he sounded terrible. I was laughing. Because to hear that from a player at that level isn't something you'd expect, and it was eye opening. I told him everyone I spoke with loved the show. He said that he felt off the whole week, that he's not used to the feeling of being jetlagged etc... Which I felt was happening to the first person as well.
It's all relative. Everyone has a carrot to chase.
