Hello, community,
I want to buy a proper guitar strap and attach it to my Saga Cigano GJ-5. Is it possible? I guess a workaround, such as making a hole in the tail or something, will be needed.
I watched a video where a D-hole Selmer guitarist plays standing to using a strap (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4qhRKDmNVM).
Guys, do you have such experience? Could you share what strap to buy and how to attach it to such guitars? I would appreciate if you share your pictures and guides.

One pin goes in the tailpiece, replacing the existing endpin if necessary. You may need to drill out the tailblock. The other pin goes on the heel. Cigano GJ-5 has a nice large and flat heel making this an easy job.
Review the discussion and pictures in this earlier thread: https://djangobooks.com/forum/discussion/16812/internal-pickup-mount-and-drilling-the-tailblock/p1
You can attach a strap more or less the way you would on any guitar.
Can I ask why you're putting a strap on it? I think there's certain ways that the way everyone plays without a strap are important for playing this kind of music. It's a free country, and I like to think these guitars are good for more than just gypsy jazz but the style of playing is based a bit on having the guitar in a seated position and not tied to your body.
I play with a strap as I have too much energy to just sit. Here is how I rigged mine up. I am not big on traditions or being like everyone else. To me music is about freedom and self expression not conformity. But hey, different strokes for different folks.
@plexi69 I like your quick and easy approach.
Doesn't Wrembel play standing up?
Not usually. But yes.
The best part is that there is no drilling or modding of the guitar 🎸
Hello, Paul,
Thank you for the comment. I am an office worker. I am tired of sitting.
Hello, plexi69,
Thank you for sharing pictures. I liked your workaround because no drilling needed. And I don't have a drill or experience drilling a guitar. How the plastic thing on the tail called?
Did you buy a specific leather strap?
That plastic thing is generally referred to as a Zip tie. You can find them at any Amazon, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, or any hardware store and they are pretty cheap. About $5 for 100.
