I do think they brought more clarity to the sound. Can't really know for sure but that was my impression after I got the guitar back. Definitely made the guitar far more playable. Fingers slide across with such ease.
I tried stainless frets on a Gitane I had a long time ago. I couldn't really play then, so who knows, but they had a sort of metallic sound that I could feel in my teeth. I didn't like them. But my experience is limited.
They are an absolute bear to put in. If someone has a plek machine that would probably be the way to go. They wear out regular tools. A lot of repair people won't deal with them.
The upside is they'll never wear down or get dents and divots though. Personally I don't think they sound different than nickel frets but admittedly have not tried them on a Selmer style guitar, I just have them on a few electrics.
So you have those who don't think it makes a difference to sound, then some that do and like it and some that don't. Conclusively confusing @littlemark
I think, Craig Bumgarner said in another post her didn't see much difference in the usage after a few guitars with SS frets. He said he would rather build more guitars than do it fret jobs in the future.
I'm getting a guitar built and am considering the idea of ss. It seems I have to do a fret dress every year. I'm doing it myself, but I'd rather spend the time playing.

Ha, thank you but there's a saying from back home "even a blind chicken finds a seed once in a while". You're a photographer, I'm a blind chicken.

@Buco I didn't realize you had stainless steel frets. Do they sound different?

I personally don't think they sound different or at least not noticeably but there is a slight difference in how they feel, at least imho
It's a no-brainer to me.
