Those were $30 in the 50's, which is probably about $300 today adjusting for inflation. I find it hard to believe they got any better with age. Think I'd rather have 100,000 Maccaferri clothes pegs
Quite a while back, Elderly Instruments had a stash of NOS plastic Macs and I bought one. It's a surprisingly decent instrument, a bit delicate thanks to the styrene plastic, but quite well designed. The consistent weak point seems to be the tuners, which are a planetary-gear design, but with aluminum gears that break--and the only way to get at them for repair or replacement is to crack open the welded-together headstock. It's not an operation I have had the nerve to conduct, which is unfortunate, because the guitar would be a perfect office wall-hanger, impervious to 20%-humidity/forced-air-heating Minnesota winters. (Unlike the Baby Taylor that developed top cracks from that environment.)

I like how he had a Johnny Depp signature model. I wonder if Johnny has a Beck signature model?!
Estimate GBP 2,000-3,000 🤣
