appel indirect or appel direct?

Anyone know the reason for the weird dual names of this tune? Was it just a publishing error, or is it deeper - some kind of French joke that I'm not getting? (Appel means 'call')

The original name was "Appel Direct" with the subtitle "Appel Indirect". It comes almost certainly from the french cards game called "la Belote" widely played in France in those years. The game is played in teams of 2 players so you must give indications to your partner to explain him the kind of cards you have and by the way to guide him in his cards choice.

Direct call: the player discards of a small card of a color to indicate to his partner that he has the master card that will help them win the game.

Indirect call: the player discards a black or red card to indicate that he has the associated color. For example he discards a Heart to notify that he has the Ace of diamonds and he discards of a Spade to notify that he has the Ace of clubs.
