Tailpiece - OK, I get it

Tele295Tele295 San Buenaventura (Latcho Drom), CA✭✭✭ Gitane DG300, D500
We've been recording lately. I haven't minded the "wet" sound of my Gitane DG300 when we've played live, but on the recordings, it sounds like a darn Dobro. I stuffed a small hankerchief under the tailpice and I got a purer sound. Will putting leather or felt under the tailpiece give me the same result, even if it only contacts at the end of the tail/soundboard ridge?

I've seen people put a wine cork cut to the desired thickness under the tailpiece to mute that ringing.

Leather will help, but just leave the cloth in place. It really works.
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.
  • I have one guitar that has a leather thong woven through the strings three strands snugged up not touching the top that keeps the ringing down and doesn't mute the top

I use tiny rubber o-rings under the strings where they cross over the bridge.

I posted a picture of this on another thread but I can't find it. Let me know if you want me to take a picture.

Don't take a picture. Just show me in a few weeks when we jam :)

Will do, looking forward to playing again. These house projects are killing me!
