Was a fantastic honor to drop in on @Buco and the hot club of DC this week! They even let me play a tune or two! Buco's guitar setup was super unique (two krivo singles side by side - humbucker, parallel, and single coil options!!) and the band is great fun. Lepic is quite good classic French food in DC's Georgetown area; and if you get there for the first set, they may let you in on the happy hour drinks special!

Ahh I'm reading the chart, terrible. I haven't played this in years. It's on our 40 or so songs setlist for this place but we never get to it. So when Haley called it I wasn't confident I can trust my memory and my ears haha.
Thank you Ben, you sounded great with Haley and Cindy. I wasn't sure if you ever ever take solos because on the forum you always talk about yourself as a rhythm player. Which you are great at but you are a very good soloist as well.
Yes, what a great surprise that was. To describe for others, a guy takes a seat at the table close to the band. After we finish a song he goes: how are you using those Krivo's? So I'm like, oh this is not a casual listener if he knows that's a Krivo pick-up. Then it hit me from his avatar picture "wait...are you Ben?" Haha, so cool.
It was a night with good vibes too, people were talking loud and having fun but being super appreciative of the music. Afterwards I thanked the lady at one of these larger groups who clapped for us after every song and she told me how part of the reason they came with the family was to celebrate her dad's life who passed away and used to play with Bucky Pizzarelli.
Don't feel too bad Buco, your bandmates also have charts.
After the first time through I could've done without it but I didn't get a chance to turn off the screen. Usually I play through the setlist prior to the gig and refresh my memory but this time a neighbor came over and ate into my practice time.
Ha ha! Hope that wasn't me! But it did make me think of this little anecdote from the Richie Kotzen interview on Beato. I've cued it up. Its about a minute long, but the video's much longer. Reminds me what you said about listening to the music.
No, you came a day later. Richie is a corky dude, lol, but there's a lot of good stuff in that interview. I think though, especially with complex timing and rhythm, understanding the underlying structure, what's going on from counting standpoint makes it miles easier to then just feel the groove.
