His tone on that classical guitar great is lovely. Happy for him to get the exposure. He is a true musician.
Dang can't wait to watch this! Will say it again, I learned more about technique from Antoine in 2 lessons than 5 years of self-teaching, highly recommend him for any intermediate students looking to get direct advice from one of the best musicians in the genre on how to level up
I don't think it's Rick's best interview TBH but Antoine is awesome.
You took 2 lessons with him? Online or in person? What were they like?
He was one of the teachers last year at Django A GoGo and was patient, kind, and extremely generous with his time. At one point at a jam, he saw me sitting around and raised his guitar for me to play. I was shocked that he would pick me out from the many people there (I was in the MEGA beginner group) and offer me his place. I refused because I don’t think anyone wanted ME taking Antoine Boyer’s spot, but I was always touched by that gesture and he gained a new fan from the very moment I met him. Would be VERY happy to take a lesson or two from him if they didn’t break the bank (which they ought to).
Also, I will say that Waltz for Angelo is in my top 3 most beautiful pieces of music extant.
You took 2 lessons with him? Online or in person? What were they like?
Online a few years ago, he was actually in South Korea (where I believe his wife's from)...I can't remember if it was zoom or teams but somewhat amazingly, we didn't really have any latency issues, just a couple pauses in reception here and there. And yeah, lessons were great, Antoine was super easy going and now that I'm thinking back, I'd say a large part of the reason why I got so much from them is because we communicated very effectively with each other
I know what you mean! I don’t know if it’s because English isn’t Antoine’s first language, but it seems like Rick is having to talk a lot more. If you compare it to the Chris Thile interview, for example, Rick can barely get a word in.
His guitar is beautifully mic-ed. That's an album worthy sound.
