I confess I feel likewise. I'm not a huge mandolin fan in general but I like the electric mandolin a lot and Srinivas is one of my fav musicians ever.
Sure the lack of sustain is a challenge and using electric mandolin is one solution (it's what I usually use for gigs and recording).

I can’t give you anything but love - Aaron Weinstein electric and acoustic
Top players can make acoustic mandolin work for gypsy jazz I believe.

I'll throw a shout out to the OG, Sims Pothoff-Delaney of Harmonious Wail, who has been playing in this style for decades and has really built a great scene in Madison, WI.
