Three Otters Django Glamp 2025

in Welcome Posts: 5,479

Hey,

Judy Gomez a violinist in the DC area is organizing the inaugural, as the title says, Three Otters Django Glamp 2025.

September 11-14. In beautiful West Virginia, on the banks of the Potomac River. At Three Otters Eco Retreat. About 2.5 hrs drive from DC area.

Details are here (once on the site click on the menu for the links to related pages)

Sounds like a lot of fun. Jamming, guitar workshops, hanging out, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, eating, drinking, jamming... what's not to like?!

All for a very reasonable $225 p/p which includes lodging (including sheets) and breakfast, dinner in Friday and Saturday (lunch is on your own) and the use of kayaks. You can set up your own tent or an RV as well (no discounts).

I'm helping Judy spread the word. I'll be there and will run guitar workshops; rhythm guitar on Friday and lead on Saturday.

Fingers crossed it's well visited. At least enough to make it worth repeating. And hopefully it grows into an annual long-standing festival. Since moving away from Chicago, I so miss the Midwest Gypsy Fest near Madison. Three Otters Django glamp sounds like it could fill that gap for me. Come if you're reasonably close.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what exactly is a "glamp"?

Glamping is a portmanteau of "glamorous" and "camping", and describes a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with "traditional" camping.

My daughter asked for one of these a few years back, that's the only reason I knew

Yeah, I've been to music festivals that offer a glamping option. They set up yurts with actual furniture...beds, dressers, strings of edison lights, etc. Probably even concierge service to bring you whatever wine or food you want. Very bougie. This is not your Woodstock in the rain camping! ha ha

I think it was Leona Helmsley who said, "My idea of roughing it is a hotel without room service." She would have embraced glamping whole-heartedly. While I don't think that is exactly what Judy has in mind, I think she's trying to get the point across that one doesn't have to be uncomfortable during the weekend.

This is a photo from their site, looks pretty nice

I read somewhere that they're in the process of replacing the yurts with the cabins. I think yurts are nicer and cooler looking. I myself will probably use a tent, it's been a long while since I had a chance to sleep in the tent. Probably since my last Madison fest, in '14.
