This video has been somewhat liberating for me when improvising. Practice is fine but, when you actually solo, forget all that and any agenda, leave your mind behind, and just listen and play.
The video is excellent. But you know, you really have to be at the advanced level of improvising in order to do that, and go to the expert level which is what that is. I mean, anyone can do it, at any time, but how are you going to sound? If you don't have phrases in your playing that are second nature and you can fire it at any moment in several similar but different permutations. And a trained ear to play whatever development you hear in head. And if you don't, do you or should you allow yourself to go for it anyway? Maybe yes...
I feel you have to have those basic building blocks before you can let go and just wail. But once you have those building blocks, how do you start? What @Rip said once, is a good advice as any, you take it one note at a time.
What Antoine was demonstrating in the video, is related to what Kurt Rosenwinkel was also demonstrating when he said, which is what I put in my profile signature (which I'm not actually seeing) : "every note wants to go somewhere"
