can anybody tell me what thickness of brass is used for these?

prices being what they are (including shipping/customs to Ireland *thanks Brexiteers* :( ) I'm going to have a go at making one myself.

(yes, I do realise they are stamped with the edge rounded over for extra rigidity and I expect to be doing that manually with a hammer and anvil!)

I've got a sheet of brass but I think it might be too thick..?

I think they vary a bit (due to quality/price but I'm not sure). I have a few somewhere if I can find them out in the shop I'll measure.

BTW I added the BYO (build your own) to your post which makes it easier for people to search DIY stuff.

Please post info about your build and pics when you get it done if you can.

Not to distract you from an interesting project, but I ordered one of the cheapo ones on eBay (on a suggestion here from @crookedpinky ) , it has just arrived and seems quite decent. Origin China and no customs etc in EU.

Cost including shipping was around 7 euros. The actual listing is confusing - it should say tailpiece with screws.

Ha! That cracks me up. It says ships worldwide, and then you look deeper and it doesn't include Africa, South America, the US, the Caribbean, most of Asia, most of Europe, most of the Pacific. Ha ha....looks like the one country they do ship to is Portugal. Maybe the UK too. You need to find a trans-shipper in one of the "allowed" places that will forward it to you in Ireland! Maybe you can set up a post box in N. Ireland? Then again, maybe you'll just enjoy the satisfaction more of making your own!
