Chromatic runs

Hi, Dennis!
I have a new question, I hope you can help me out.
Which part of the middle finger should make contact with the first string when executing the famous ascending chromatic run? the tip? the side? which side?
I ask because the string is cutting my skin kind of deep.
Whats the deal? should I form a new callous? am I doing it wrong?
are my guitar or strings to blame? has this ever happened to you?
Thank you in advance
-Harry

    Thank you
I made the mistake of using the side...and since its just skin (no callous) I got cut, i think because of the action being so high (4mm.)
I´m using Argentines by the way, but I replaced the first two strings with cheap mexican steel ones, and i´m really regreting it.
So I´ll start using the tip as soon as the wounds closes.
    Thanks again!
