Hi guys !

Juste a word to let you know that we will release at Universal Jazz on August 28 the first record of a brand new band : Latches.
Steeve Laffont, Yorguoi Loeffler and Chriss Campion all together !

No competition in this record, no speed-freak useless gimmicks, only the pleasure of playing music.
The repertoire will please all tastes regarding tempo, musical colour, composer (Django, Corea, Michel Legrand, original band members compositions).
We tried to find an original and natural sound, where you can hear the notes played by the bass and without annoying swimming-pool like reverb ;o)

I'll let you know more during the summer, meanwhile you can listen to their verison of Topsy on Gino Roman's myspace :

Chriss begins on the right channel, then Steeve on the lefte one, Yorgui on center and finally Chriss again for the end theme.

Enjoy !

All the best,
Michel

That sounds great; I've been waiting to hear more from Steeve Laffont since I got his CD of a couple of years ago.

That's classy - With groups like Latches and Zaiti growing out of the foundation laid by the Schmitts / Romane / Saussois etal... We're heading toward a new golden age in this music.

Count me in - make sure to get some of these to Michael. (Djangobooks) because it's difficult for us to order single CDs now with the dollar to Euro ratio + overseas shipping. Each European CD we buy costs about twice the price of a CD that we purchase here and it takes weeks to arrive. But if we can buy the CD when we're buying strings / picks then the cost is not so bad and the wait is better.

    Congratulations! Fine work.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.

Thanks Bob for those precious infos

Make sure we'll do our best to make this record affordable for North-American gipsy jazz fans.

As you said, there is a lot of exciting things happening : Rosenberg's tribute to Grappelli, Zaiti, Latchès, Selmer 607, the next Angelo (only with his own compositions but maybe it has already been said on the forum?) the next Bireli... :)
    2008 is a good year!

Here's a podcast from their show in Nice Jazz festival, which was broadcasted live on french jazz radio TSF, last july 23rd.

The weather was very hot hence some little tuning problems from time to time but the playing is great!

You can also find more podcasts and interviews from the festival

    All the best,
    Mitch
