Hi all,

I might be starting a new side band soon, sort of a chamber-jazz thing with violin and cello to do some slower tunes and some tangos. Has anyone seen the fake book available here? I don't know enough to know if it's worth getting. Here's the cover:

Also I wonder if anyone has good resources on the web for tangos? I'm aware of the sheets available at http://www.mandragoratango.com/sheetmusic.php but otherwise I'm running into the problem of trying to separate the tango music sites from the tango dancing sites...I'd love to find some information specific to using guitar.

thanks,
Jack.

    Hi Jack,

I am also interested in working up some tangos but I haven't really gotten started yet.

I did a quick google and found these:

Keep in touch if you find any other good sources.

I found several guitar arrangements for "Libertango" at my local library... one includes a flute part, which would easily work for violin.
"I might be starting a new side band soon, sort of a chamber-jazz thing with violin and cello."

Funny. I've been trying to do something similar.

Good thing we're on opposite coasts...jazz rumbles are ugly things. Good luck with it, and let me know how it goes!

    best,
    Jack.

gentleman welcome to my bailiwick hehe. tango happens to be part of my band's standard repertoire AND part of my Argentinian heritage. Jack Soref will tell you about how he was put through his paces sight reading tango for dancers earlier this month. Jack of course aced the gig :)

So anyhoo, if you'd like some tips AND boat loads of tango fake book stuff, i have it . that book is ok jack and i have it but, before you spend money I can help with freebies.

My first tip is not jazz. it has its' own VERY unique feel which could be likened to swinging but, not quite. if you want tp be authentic listen to 1920s-1950s stuff. anything after like Piazolla for example is not tango. that's fusion or nuevo tango. it also depends on if you play for dancers or for listeners.

Sub on a gig with me and I'll give you an under the gun experience hehe ;)

todotango.com is a great resource for listening but, the charts are piano based.

I also have some full arrangements for groups of piazolla stuff if anyone wants those.
