Fun Question Of The Month--Sept.

What's the oddest (or most interesting) thing that ever happened to you on one of your gypsy jazz gigs? Please limit your answer to one story, I'll get it started:

I was playing a wedding gig a few years back. On the set break, I did my usual "take advantage of the break to pee" thing. When I opened the door to the bathroom (it was one of those unisex bathrooms with a capacity of one patron), there was the bride putting her flowing white dress back on after finishing up business of her own. Evidently the latch wasn't working that day. Anyway, she apologized & I apologized and we shared a laugh about it. I left & returned after she was done. Needless to say, when I got home & my wife asked how the gig went, I had an awkward story to tell!

I was just remembering the other day how we were playing "Que reste-t-il de nos amours" at a local cidery (noisy, warehouse environment with high ceilings and lots of noisy conversation). After we were done, a middle-aged woman came up to us and asked what the name of the last song was. I explained it was an old French song by Charles Trenet, gave the title, but then said she might possibly know it by the name "I Wish You Love", which is the English lyrics version.

She immediately beamed and turned to her friends. "That's Uncle Albert's song!" Then she explained how, when she was a young girl growing up in Florida, they had a family "friend" who was referred to as Uncle Albert (no relation to Admiral Halsey 😁) who wrote the lyrics to that song. How it was a big deal to them that he had minor fame for writing that song. She was so excited to hear it being played by us and it was neat for me to have someone appreciate one of these great songs.
