a good purchase
It's good to have gypsy jazz lessons for mandolin. So much instruction is tangential as it's for guitar. It might be nice to have a lesson dealing with basic rest strokes for the mando. This lesson assumes you've mastered them,as McGann generally begins at a fairly advanced level.

Pros: great exercises
Cons: would like more examples of using the picking exercises in whole, simple gypsy jazz songs
A good book to help players make the switch to the specific picking technique needed to emulate gypsy jazz style. Lots of meat in the book. Enough to last me for several months!

Play faster, louder, and with better tone by learning the rest-stroke picking technique used by Django Reinhardt, Stochelo Rosenberg, Bireli Lagrene, and Fapy Lafertin.
Three cornered shape. 1.0mm thick.
For mandolinists attempting to play Gypsy jazz, this book is the closest thing youll get to Gypsy Picking for mandolin. Additionaly, Bickford takes you from the basics of reading music to some very advanced mandolin duets and solo pieces.
