I just brought home a new Dupont MDC50. It's the first Grand Bouche guitar I have owned, and the first new-from-the-factory guitar I have purchased in a long time. First, the actual process of buying this guitar was remarkably easy and straightforward. The sound samples on Michael's website were very helpful, and an accurate representation of what the guitar sounds like. Michael is very responsive to questions, and the whole buying process couldn't have been easier. I live in Portland, a few hou...

I've been playing this instrument for 6-7 months now, and the tone - stellar to begin with - continues to improve. It has a beautiful low rumble perfect for rhythm, with complexities that are still emerging. The high end is simultaneously crisp and mellow. I had the neck shaved down a month or two after it arrived to accommodate my smaller hands, with no ill effects. Michael was patient, responsive and instructive from first to last, answering questions I was embarrassed to have to ask, as well...

Following up on Jeff's review, I bought one of his mentioned MDC-50's (the 14 fret) through Michael. The first thing you notice is how light it is. You really feel the sound reverberate against your body. Nice neck too. While it certainly packs punch for rhythm, it's got plenty of brightness for soloing. One sweet guitar.

I have owned two of these d-hole Duponts.Presently down to 1. They are very well built . Great gypsy tone and quite loud. Not as dry as some europiean guitars but the large soundhole might have something to do with that. Wonderfull guitars that will last a lifetime...

This is a wonderful guitar in so many ways. The light construction and neck profile are very comfortable, giving you hours of stree-free enjoyment. The guitar is louder than my 1932 National Triolian, which is to say it is a cannon that will get you heard with any band and will require some consideration for others when playing lead. The tone is not sacrificed to volume and it has that dry woodiness we all know and love from the vintage Selmer recordings. The attention to details and craftsmansh...

2024 Dupont MDC50

2024 Dupont MDC50

Maurice Dupont has long been one of the most respected luthiers in France and one of the first contemporary makers to specialize in producing the Selmer Maccaferri guitar. Maurice first gained recognition as a builder of classical guitars and in 1989 was bestowed with the honor of "Best French Craftsman." Maurice was an apprentice of the legendary Gypsy guitar maker Jacques Favino, and in 1986 he began building his own Selmer style guitars which quickly became the most popular choice of professional Gypsy guitarists. Countless Gypsy stars including Raphael Fays, Biréli Lagrène, Tchavolo Schmitt, and Romane have played Dupont guitars which appear on hundreds of recordings.

Dupont's Gypsy models are built entirely in Cognac, France by master luthiers Patrick (who joined the Dupont team in 1994) and Mathias (since 2002) under the supervision of Maurice Dupont. The collective experience.of the Dupont team along with Maurice's stock of well aged, select tonewoods yields instruments of unsurpassed tone and playability.

The MDC50 has been THE go to guitar for pros for over two decades. It's one of the few D holes that accurately produces a traditional Selmer tone with the added lows and mids of a D hole. D holes often sound too dark and muddy...but this fine guitar is finely balanced so that you get the rich sound of a D hole without loosing the high end cutting power that the oval holes have. Very warm with just enough "crunch."

Dupont guitar purchase

I just brought home a new Dupont MDC50. It's the first Grand Bouche guitar I have owned, and the first new-from-the-factory guitar I have purchased in a long time. First, the actual process of buying this guitar was remarkably easy and straightforward. The sound samples on Michael's website were very helpful, and an accurate representation of what the guitar sounds like. Michael is very responsive to questions, and the whole buying process couldn't have been easier. I live in Portland, a few hours south of Michael's business in Seattle so I was able to drive up and get it. It really couldn't have gone any better, Michael even brought the guitar to me at my car since there are so many stairs at his business. (the Pegleg name is real). The guitar itself is beautiful. Craftmanship is very solid, great looking back and tailpiece. and that beautiful D shapes sound hole. I'm getting the feel for it, the fretboard is a bit wider than some guitars, which I like, and the neck has a comfortable shape for playing. It has a nice, slightly crunchy, penetrating voice that I really like. My rhythm playing sounded better immediately. It is going to be great fun getting to know this guitar, and playing it in jams. Very satisfied with my purchase and the buying experience.

Dupont MDC50

Pros: Tone, tone, tone!

Michael was patient, responsive and instructive from first to last, answering questions I was embarrassed to have to ask, as well as those I didn't know enough to ask. After-sale support was there as well - he replaced a tuner for which there was a minor problem. Communication was prompt and helpful. I had been able to play an earlier year of this same model for a few hours and knew I liked that one, but had been concerned about buying an untried instrument online. I love this guitar and suspect it'll be a long time if ever before I start jonesing for another, but if it happens I will happily deal with Michael again.

What a cannon!

Merci monsieur Dupont!
