  • I'd guess for that price, the Hommage is the "lesser" Hommage. If so, I'd go for the D-500, if it is a choice between the two. I've played a D500 at a shop in NYC and it sounded pretty good to my ears. I recall doing some poking around here and some folks seemed to think the Ciganos sound better than the D500. I played Cigano D-hole at a jam and it sounded pretty good...sorry I don't recall the model. I haven't had a chance to compare all of these options together, so it's all hearsay, I guess.

I started on an Aria MM20. They're okay for the money if you're on a really tight budget, but there was slight hump at the 12th fret and the frets were not very good. I ended up trading up to an older (made in US) Dell Arte Latcho Drom (Favino size like the Hommage) which is like night and day...a much, much better guitar. I'd go with the Dell Arte, if you can afford it. I think you'll be happier in the long run. It should also hold it's resale value pretty well. I've played a few Cigano Dholes (Michael sells these for a great price)...and they seem like good solid, basic GJ guitars.

$520 for a D-500 with case is a bargain, go for it. Nothing wrong with the Hommage, just remember it's the chinese one not the US one.

The gitane D-500 is by saga i think. so is it always Chinese if made by saga?
and yes i guess the Dell Arte is a "lesser" one. also by saga probably
my dell arte dg-h2 oval hole is also Chinese (also saga? lolz seems like no matter what i'll end up with one of them) and it's very well finished. it does have a little bit humming, which i will visit the store for where i bought it. but else i'm very pleased with it.
but okay if a D-500 for a bit over 500€ is a bargain i guess i will go with that one.
seems like the new price is around 700 up to 900, and a hardcase around 70€ so i guess it isn't a bad deal. one think i don't like is that it's a 12th fret to the body... :(
I got a cigano DJ-10 which also isn't bad but no compartment to the dell arte, but i don't think i would buy a second one. just thought maybe the aria mm10 would be an exception but seeing the prize category i guess it's in the cigano league.

These are re-badged Chinese Dell Arte DG-H1's with, I believe, a different tuner/tailpiece...

Ah, if you want 14 frets just get the Dell Arte. There is not that much difference in sound to have to live with 12 frets if you play lead.

@ redblues i know but for some stupendous reason i would rather have to different ones... i mean not both dell arte. but hey i know thats plain silly to base a decision on.

If you click on the More Info links, they lead you to eBay listings, so this seems to be just a compilation of eBay items.

Guess it depends on which item you are looking at. The ones I clicked went to eBay, but others apparently lead elsewhere.
