Help! My tailpiece broke...

I have a John Jorgenson Signature Model by Gitane. I recentley discovered the tailpiece is broken. I don't have any idea as to how or when. The information I do have is this:
1- It was is it's case and standing upright unplayed for about two weeks
2- Its getting to be winter time, so temperature changes are happening
3- I did crash into it one night it the dark and smashed my toe, but like I said it was in its case

If anyone has advice on what to buy I would appreciate it. Is there a tailpiece that would be preferable for this model of guitar?

Looks like you've already loosened the strings but if you haven't -- do so immediately. You don't want the tailpeice to totally snap off and then fling up and scratch or gouge your guitar. As for what happened -- can't say. These tailpieces are pretty thin and I've heard of them breaking before. Good news for you is you can get a replacement right here at Djangobooks. Just buy the one for Gitane guitars and change the insert (if that's important to you) The tailpiece should just drop in and fit. Check with MIchael Horowitz if there are any questions. AE
