Case versus Soundhole humidifiers
With winter approaching here in Quebec, I am shopping for a humidifier to keep my guitar happy. A room humidifer is unfortunaltely not an option for me. The humidipak, though, is made to humidify and dehumiidify, so it can lose too much moisture and cease being able to humidify, if there is no swing to humid (it can't keep giving out moisture indefinitely). I found dampit to do the best job humidifying. Soak it, lightly squeeze out the excess water and wipe off the drops on the outside. I run a console humidifier in my guitar room (dining room to my wife); that's better than having individual dampits for each of our guitars. In the winter, I fill the 5 gallon reservoir twice a day. Winter dryness will cause the action to drop, especially on Selmer or arch top guitars. -

Definitely get something to read humidity levels in a room where you keep your guitar. You need to know what the level is in order to take a proper action if needed. You're doing it how most people do it. In the soundhole wouldn't hurt - that's the theory behind dampits - and they're great - I use them. But by doing the sponge/bottle thing, and keeping it in a case, you're already helping a lot. -

Sorry to hear about your situation. I've been running a humidifier for about a month now and I'm nowhere near the environment your in. I did a search for DAMPIT and these are the results… Lot's of info and possible hope also a couple of Lazareth stories. Probably worth reading…… -
