2011 Marin LEFTY

2011 Marin LEFTY
This rare left-handed Gypsy guitar was built by the acclaimed Spanish builder Olivier Marin. Over the past decade Olivier's guitars became the top choice of numerous "Young Lions" of the Gypsy jazz scene in France. Sebastian Giniaux, Adrien Moignard, Gonzalo Bergara, Mathieu Chatelain, and many others have performed and recorded with Marin guitars.

This model is loosely based on the original Selmer, although the larger 16 1/4" body and 675mm scale length are reminiscent of a Busato. This instrument features walnut back and sides, a walnut neck, an ebony fingerboard, and a spruce top. Hardware includes a set of Gotoh tuners and a DR tailpiece.

The sound of this instrument is darker and more rounded than a typical Selmer. It's perfect for the more modern style of the New French School of playing, but still has enough Gypsy bark and bite when you need it. The cedar top adds an open, complex character to the tone that you typically only hear in instruments that are many decades older.

This instrument is in excellent condition. There are some small signs of use including a few small dings and scratches on the body. There is almost no fretwear. Otherwise, it's all around a very clean example.

Left-handed Gypsy guitars are an extreme rarity, and one built by one of Europe's most renowned makers is likely a once in a life time opportunity!
