There is a line in the film Juno, after a friend has recommended Sonic Youth to her based on the song Superstar, the title character says "Oh and you know what? I bought another Sonic Youth album and it sucked... it's just noise" Sadly this is a fairly apt description of Rose Room. There are some positives, such as great rhythm playing by Jimmy, and some fairly innovative accordion by Stian Carstensen, but it just doesn't work. Not for me

Arrangement was not an issue in the recording studio and although it may have been a good idea at a party somewhere to pitch these two virtuosos together, it's a cacophony of dissonance on record. If a tune from this album comes on by accident (i.e. shuffle) I find myself rushing over to change the tune. Gypsy punk rock, and not good punk rock even at that. Overall: Not for me I'm afraid
