This unique Selmer style instrument was constructed by Seattle based luthier James Naprawa. It features a sitka spruce top, padauk back and sides, and a five piece neck made of padauk, maple, and purple heart. It was constructed with standard Selmer specs: 15 3/4" body, 670mm scale, and a 3 7/8" body depth. Aesthetically it incorporates many modern innovations from the archtop world including a cello style tailpiece, and a small soundport in the upper bout. The neck is also very modern and ultra-slim with the feel you'd expect of fast playing solidbody electric. This guitar's highly ergomiic neck makes it a great choice for those with smaller hands or for those just looking to achieve more speed, accuracy, and comfort.
The sound of this instrument is rich and full with a nice mix of Gypsy "bite" and modern fullness. It has a very robust midrange response which yields rich chords and fat single note lines. The treble register is nicely rounded, with enough punch to cut through while still remaining warm and musical.
Needless to say, this instrument plays like a dream! Feels more like a Stratocaster than a Gypsy guitar. A great choice for those looking to push their musical and technical boundaries!
