The MM-20 is an affordable student Gypsy guitar from Aria. Modeled after the 14 fret, oval hole Selmer guitars produced in the 1930-50s. This guitar features a 14 fret neck, 670mm scale, and a 15 3/4" body. The top is solid spruce, back and sides are laminated rosewood, and the neck is mahogany.
The MM-20 has a surprising amount of volume and a rather pleasing tone. One would think that a guitar in this price range would be too flawed for professional use but with a little setup work this instrument could easily be used for regular performing. The long scale and smaller soundhole optimize this guitar for lead playing. Single notes are clearer and project better than the fuller, but less cutting D hole model. Additionally, the fit finish are rather nice, looks sharp! All in all, a great starter guitar for the budding Gypsy jazzer.
