Excellent film. Very little concert footage. It's almost all interviews with the players (Angelo, Tchavolo, Moreno, Ninine) in their homes, and with their families. It explores the difficulties of daily life and the problems Romani people face in many societies. Highly recommended.

Les Fils du Vent (Tchavolo Schmitt, Angelo Debarre, Moreno)

Les Fils du Vent (Tchavolo Schmitt, Angelo Debarre, Moreno)
This film is a landmark in gypsy jazz with its portraits of artists freely perpetuating the venerable legacy of Django Reinhardt. It was praised by critics and public alike when it was released to cinemas in October 2012, after its director Bruno Le Jean had spent eight years filming the guitarists Angelo Debarre, Moreno, Ninine Garcia and Tchavolo Schmitt. His film portrays everyday music handed down orally from one generation to the next — from the federating of gypsies, Romanies and Tziganes into one great family, to the permits and expulsion of Roms — and treats all those themes with humanity, poetry and realism. The «Sons of the Wind» in the film’s title are passers — go-betweens conveying the rich treasures of this community — yet their contribution to western culture, especially jazz, is decisive.

Running time: 1H 36. French with English subtitles.
