Amazing instrument. Beautifully made, great balanced sound and lots of volume that does not overwhelm the sweet sound of the guitar. Last night I played with an accordion player. As i was warming up in my practice room he was standing outside the room. Before entering he asked me when I started using an amp. The volume was so impressive he actually thought I was plugged in. 2013 Cholet Modele Jazz
Yohann Cholet, who hails from a long line of woodworkers, first gained a passion for lutherie in his teens while building violins in his grandfather's workshop. After graduating with honors from the acclaimed lutherie program at the Newark & Sherwood College in England, Yohann joined the ranks of the "new school" of French craftsman building guitars in the Selmer Maccaferri style. His instruments are known for their elegant workmanship, sublime tone, and easy playability. Yohann's guitars are particularly noteworthy for the fact that they are "slow built" entirely from hand tools, a rarity in this age of power tools and CNC machines.

This fine example of Yohann's work is a classic Selmer copy with the standard Selmer specifications (15 3/4" body and a 670mm scale.) The top was crafted from aged cedar, the neck from walnut (with a Selmer style grafted headstock), and the back sides are highly figured zircote.

The projection and playability of this instrument are on par with the best guitars being built in France, but that is not what separates this guitar from the rest. Rather, the tone it posses is what makes this instrument shine. Each note is comprised of a near perfect balance of mids and highs which yields a very satisfying and mellifluous tone. As easy on the hands as it is on the ears, this wonderful guitar is very forgiving of any type of playing technique (or lack of.) It seems to know just when to growl and just when to purr, it nearly plays itself!

I only receive guitars once or so a year from Yohann, so this is a rare opportunity to grab a piece of cutting edge French luthiery at a very reasonable price.  This new guitar has a slight bit of shop wear. There are some very light scratches on the back. They are very light and can only be seen upon close inspection in the right light. Otherwise, this instrument is completely clean!

Cholet Modele Jazz Guitar

Amazing instrument. Beautifully made, great balanced sound and lots of volume that does not overwhelm the sweet sound of the guitar. Last night I played with an accordion player. As i was warming up in my practice room he was standing outside the room. Before entering he asked me when I started using an amp. The volume was so impressive he actually thought I was plugged in. Add to this, the advice Mike gave me when making my purchase and one would be hard pressed to need to go anywhere else to purchase a gypsy guitar. I also purchased the gypsy rhythm book and it is an amazing book. It will not be gathering dust on the shelf like so many other guitar books I own.
