2009 Dupont Busato Luxe
Maurice Dupont has long been one of the most respected luthiers in France and one of the first contemporary makers to specialize in producing the Selmer Maccaferri guitar. Maurice first gained recognition as a builder of classical guitars and in 1989 was bestowed with the honor of "Best French Craftsman." Maurice was an apprentice of the legendary Gypsy guitar maker Jacques Favino, and in 1986 he began building his own Selmer style guitars which quickly became the most popular choice of professional Gypsy guitarists. Countless Gypsy stars including Raphael Fays, Biréli Lagrène, Tchavolo Schmitt, and Romane have played Dupont guitars which appear on hundreds of recordings.
This is Dupont's much anticipated copy of the classic Busato design. It is a near exact copy, with the classic Busato proportions: 670mm scale length and a 16 1/4" body size. It also features the famous Busato bombe (top arch) which is more curved then Favinos or Selmers. Like the originals, this guitar also has a beautifully arched back.
This guitar has a Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, ivoroid binding, a three piece walnut/maple neck, a tinted finish and deluxe Busato tuners.
The sound is very close to the original Busato guitars, and in many cases is almost indistinguishable. Like the vintage Busatos, this guitar has a bright, dry tone with a very clear, bell like high end. Busatos are built for cutting power and Dupont has definitely succeeded in achieving that. Generally, Busatos are some of the loudest Gypsy guitars ever built and this guitar lives up to that tradition.
This used example is in near mint condition. There are a few light scratches on the body and a minor ding, but otherwise this instrument is very clean.
