This beautiful sounding guitar bears many of the characteristics of
instruments built by the great Franco-Sicilian luthiers. Although I
can't positively identify who made this instrument, it very well could
have been built by Busato, Castelluccia, Bucolo, Di Mauro, Fontaine,
or any of a number of other immigrant run shops active at the time. It
has no label, but it's impressive woods and hardware suggest it was a
flagship "presentation model" or perhaps a custom order. Regardless,
it's one of the most unique and impressive sounding vintage Gypsy
guitars I've had, making it a fabulous deal as similar Busatos would
sell for two to three times the price.
While
loosely based on a Selmer, this unique design is in essence a "slimline"
Gypsy guitars of sorts. The 15 3/4" body is just 3 1/2" deep, making it
extremely comfortable to play. It has a spruce top which is supported by only four
braces, similar to the Django's Selmer which had the same unique
feature. The back and sides are constructed of gorgeous quilted maple.
The three piece maple neck was built in the Sicilian style, with an
ebony spline and a rosewood heel cap. Hardware includes a set of the
highly coveted SB tuners and a nickle tailpiece.
This is a rare opportunity to own a guitar with great vintage sound for less. Why wait for the next $20K Busato when you can have this fine sounding guitar for a fraction of the price? This is the CASH price...add 3% if you'd like to pay with a credit card. Add 4% for international credit card orders. |
