Tomorrow Night! (Wednesday August 19th)!
Gypsy jazz in a basement lounge, you ask? Yes, it's going to be a
great night out for music. Bar Reis just renovated- new bar and all, we will be in the basement jamming. Please join Franglais for our
weekly set and hot club jam session this Wednesday, In the last few
weeks we've had some very talented guests, and had a lot of fun. Come
check it out! This week the schedule is as follows:
8 pm-ish: one set by Franglais (Ben Wood and Bobby Sexton on guitars,
Piruz Partow on bass and Monica Smith on violin)
9:30 pm-ish: jam session for whomever cares to join us
Park Slope's Bar Reis, located at 375 Fifth Avenue--between 5th and
6th streets--is accessible by the F, M, and R trains at 9th Street and
4th Avenue. The bar has a nice selection of draft and bottled beer,
some good wine, and talented mixologists (Wednesday nights we have Mo,
who in keeping with the spirit of Franglais, has changed her name to
Meaux--at least on Wednesdays). No kitchen, but they do have an
impressive collection of take-out menus.
See you there!

It was great doing the hang with you.
To anyone who does not know Ben Wood or has not had the pleasure of hanging out with him and doing some playing, he is a genuine gentleman and a really interesting musician and guitarist. His knowledge of the genre is deep and voluable and he really has some promising things happening with his playing yet very humble about it all. Shepp and I had such a great time jamming at the Brooklyn cafes with Ben during our downtime, swapping ideas and new tunes, and discussing different rhythms and approaches, etc.
It was great to have Ben sitting in with us at Mehanata's on Saturday night.
He truly added a colorful dynamic to the trio that was undeniably "bad-ass."
Anyway, thanks Ben. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
