preamp for pickup

After reading the posts on the schatten pickups I was interestd enough to consult their website which showed the product with or without a preamp. Here's a question for the electronically knowledgeable folk-(which I'm not)
In my box of old goodies I've got a Dod Fet preamp pedal in good working order. Can I use this for the preamp if I bought the cheaper passive model HFN-S ?
I know that FET stands for Field Effect Transistor and that some acoustic amps have them but that's my limit I'm afraid.

Mike, call Les Schatten, he should be able to tell you. He's a good guy and will do his best to help. I love the sound of my Schatten, never thought I'd say that about any acoustic pickup. Best, Breeze

looks like an interesting pickup... Hey Campfire, did you buy the passive or the active version?
