Would Gypsy and 'Standard' picking benefit eachother?

I use both, but I'm far more skilled with free stroke 100% alternate picking. I have noticed, however, that my gypsy picking has developed much faster than my standard picking did when I was just learning guitar 4 years ago. Do you guys believe that practicing standard picking benefits gypsy picking and vice versa? I haven't been using gypsy picking long enough to notice anything other than what I said before, I learnt the GP technique relatively quickly.

I note that 'apoyando' or rest stoke provides a very solid tone, however i'm struggling with this technique on plectrum guitar, i'm more acustom to this approach on classical guitar.
