There's a recording project underway that's mostly done and that needs some help getting it across the finish line. The project and album (plus a documentary that will be produced) are a dedication to Fred Gomes, an accordionist who was a staple of the Parisian music scene as a street player for 20 years. Fred passed away and this album is an effort from people involved to pay homage to a friend and help Fred's family.

Everyone involved played and recorded for free. You will see many familiar names.

The album is only 12 euro, 17 tracks, what I heard from the videos below sounds great

Due to arthritic hands, I have decided to sell my newish (<50 hours playing time) Marcel Dreux Signature Ludovic Beier Accordina. This is the exact one that Luudovic plays. Their current cost for anyone here in the US is around $2800 after currency conversion plus $150 for shipping plus $250-500 for Tariffs. I'd be happy to see it go to someone here for $2000. It's a great instrument.

I do have an antique Borel that I am restoring that is smaller in profile and lighter. I have to get 6 reeds working. If I can't do that I have a pair of Borel Claviettas which are basically like the Melodicas. These use the same exact reeds.

been lurking around here for years. But on the roots and swing side mostly. Haven’t played out in a while but just came across a 2003 Eimers Stochelo Rosenberg that I could not pass up.

its a well played guitar but you can still see the care that went into making it compared to others I’ve played and owned. A wonderful guitar.

played lots of roots and swing adjacent in semi pro and regional acts over the years.

I’ve had plenty of high end guitars in the past and this one is well road worn but I’m quite happy with the purchase.

I'm new to this style and would like to play with someone.

Brian here from Los Angeles. I've been playing guitar since my early teens, starting to play on my dad's classical backwards. My first guitar came from Norman's Rare Guitars where Norm tried very hard to convince me to play right-handed. It was already too late, and I started on a late 70's steel string acoustic Ovation that I still cherish to this day. I have had a few stints over the years where I was fascinated with Django and gypsy jazz music, but the recent Rick Beato interviews with Antoine Boyer and Joscho Stephan really got me hooked.

I just got my hands on an Altamira Lefty (M01F F-hole version) and I'm quite pleased with the fit, finish and tone. I wasn't sure how the 670mm scale was going to feel in my hands, but I don't have any issue at all. I have a few 25.5" Martin acoustics with a 1 11/16 nut and transitioning between guitars has been relatively seamless.

I'm also finding the guitar to be more versatile than I expected. It sounds good with my regular 1mm picks, my typical acoustic repertoire, and even finger picking stuff. I ordered a couple of lefty Wegen picks from Michael @Djangobooks and they take a little getting used to. They make the guitar sound bright and punchy for sure.

I was travelling this week and managed to catch the Joscho Stephan Trio in Santa Fe that the dude blew me away. He really has it all...insane speed, precision, dynamics, extended technique, vocabulary, even humorous melodic nods to well-known songs. Being 1/2 Argentine, I appreciated the Gypsy style cover of an Astor Piazzola tune. Amazing stuff. I'm inspired to play now.

This weekend there will be a great gypsy jazz festval in Carrboro, North Carolina. Violinist/guitarist Gabriel Pelli has kept this tradition going in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area for years.

There will be great international (including Sinti) performers, as well as workshops and jamming.

What do you think? I love playing with that signal chain into a mic with my Dupont with headphones on, makes me play and feel different.

The Idiomatiques are releasing their new album "Indigo Nocturne" in a bit over a week for DFNW, (Yes we are preforming Thursday nite the 19th!)

I will also teach a workshop "Django Semetrics" which I have updated from last year's seminar (if you attended last year let me know and I'll get you in free).

With Benji and William, does it get better when it comes to the rhythm section? Edouard Pennes recorded and mixed so you know it can hardly sound any better.

Look at Fanou's left hand. It's so loose, it's barely holding onto the fretboard. That's the key to the relaxed right hand.

Will there be more from this session, an album hopefully? I can only find this single currently. I don't recall seeing Adrien playing on this guitar (René Gérome?) before either.

I usually don’t post things like this, but I wanted to share it here because some of you know I’ve been working on a new musical for the last year or so.

It’s called Shangri-La-La, an original comedy musical, and we’ve been invited to two theater festivals in NYC this year, one in April and one in July. Like most independent shows, it’s been held together with a lot of work, music, faith, and money out of pocket.

Mike Meier, co-writer/composer, has been personally financing the whole thing so far; performers, recordings, orchestra, costumes, production costs. We’re at the point where a little outside help could really make a difference.

The story itself is wild: a funny but unsettling musical based on true events, a real lawsuit, and the world behind Siegfried & Roy’s Las Vegas empire.

The time has come for me to buy a new tablet.

My good old Apple iPad 2 is now 15 years old. It still works fine but it’s prone to freezing/crashing while attempting to negotiate the internet of 2026.

I’ve had fairly good luck with it over the years, using music apps like “Deep Dish GigBook” and “forScore”.

At the time I purchased these inexpensive apps, they were compatible only with Apple tablets but not the IBM platform.

”forScore” was the best one for me. Although it had a clunky and sometimes infuriating user interface, it was capable of displaying lead sheets while playing my homemade MP3 backing tracks and so it was great for solo gigs.

So here’s my question—- can anybody tell me about the latest and greatest music apps in 2026?

I’m hoping to find one a lot like my old “forScore” but hopefully more user-friendly, to run on my new tablet.

Can any of you tech whizzes out there recommend one?

Which platform does it run on: Apple or IBM?

My name is Valentin, from the YouTube channel Transcriptions Library. I’ve started a project that’s very close to my heart: creating a new Django Fakebook. I think many of you are familiar with the famous “fakebook_django_2008.pdf”. The idea here is to offer a new version, trimming away some rarely played tunes and adding others that are truly essential.

There will be a treble clef version, like the 2008 one, but also a tablature version, since I’ve noticed that most gypsy jazz guitarists are not strong sight-readers 😄. I’ll also include a list of chord charts on iReal Pro.

It’s a big project, especially because the goal is to write the themes in the simplest and most direct way possible: getting to the core of each melody, without unnecessary embellishments, and using the right chords—again, without useless ornamentation. Everything is thought out from a gypsy jazz musician’s point of view, because we often approach standards differently from traditional jazz players, whether in the chords, the melody, or the arrangement.

I wanted to talk about it here to get your feedback on the project. If you have tunes you’d like to see included in this fakebook, don’t hesitate to let me know. I’m writing everything down and will sort it out later. I’m planning to release a first version with 150 to 200 tunes, then continue to expand and refine it over time.

I purchased this guitar from Jacques Mazzoleni so those who know, know he was a reputable dealer (Jacques mostly retired from the business). Purchased Jan 2022 so close to four years ago.

Beyond what Jacques says you can see the guitar had a magnetic pickup mounted and then removed and an inch of the neck near the sound hole replaced.

This guitar was sold on the 7th of October 1949 to a Mister Seurol..at some point in it's life, it became the property of Challain Ferré..you can see a photo of him playing on stage, the guitar as a Lefty.. since then, the black "stick on" pickguard was removed without damaging the guitar..it is the "classic" model. laminated rosewood back and sides..solid spruce top that is both "bombé" and "plié" at the bridge line.. the fingerboard was replaced and refretted at some point. the neck angle is perfect and does not show to have been resetted at any time..the action is spot on, and there is a second bridge in the case for those hygrometry variations.. it comes in a beautiful reissue case, that is the best copy of the original case.. sturdy and perfect fitting.. the guitar plays and sounds great, and needs absolutely nothing but to be played...

Wilhelmsburg is a quarter of Hamburg in the south of the city, situated in the Elbe river, it's europe's biggest river island. The north of the island used to be a rather poor working class quarter, with many migrants and students. Since several years rents are going up. The south of the island has beautiful landscape. The second part of the video features Georgswerder in the eastern part of Wilhelmsburg, where the Weiss clan is living. You can see their caravans in the arial view at the end of part 2.
