Say you’re playing a an ascending line starting on open B string to open E string, then continuing up the E string to the octave (just a simple scalar run). If you strictly keep downstrokes on beats, the string change can sometimes force two downstrokes in a row. So it can become down - down (string change) - down (on beat) - up - down.

I’m fine with the rest stroke and crossing strings, but that extra down stroke starts to feel pretty awkward at speed. How do people usually handle this?

Just wondering, where can I find the online audio examples that are referenced in the book?

All of those seem to have the same hand position, maybe use the same type of pics, but why such a difference in the tone? And all aways sound the same respectively, Mozes never sounds harsh-bright and Moreno never smooth.

as far as i remember the most important one is that when we change strings we use downstrokes no matter if we go from E6 towards E1 or from E1 towards E6. are there any assumptions in relation to playing 3,4,5 notes on single string if we dont change this string ? can we do whatever we want (mixing downstrokes with upstrokes )as long as we play on single string and we dont change this string ?

Take out a metronome and play tremolo on a single string as fast as you can, while being TOTALLY relaxed.

For sake of example, let’s say you are able to play 1/4 notes at 60 bpm with complete relaxation. Now you have located your baseline for your current Goldilocks zone.

This means that you can play:

Whole notes at 240 bpm

1/2 notes at 120bpm

1/4 notes at 60 bpm

1/8 notes at 30 bpm

Triplets at 20 bpm

1/16 notes at 15 bpm

Now you can play any tune at 15 bpm and get the experience of being able to have a descent amount of mastery with you right hand, freeing you up to focus more on tone and feel.

The same will be true for 20bpm, but you won’t be able to play 1/16 notes.

The same is true for 30 bpm, but you won’t be able to play 1/16 notes and triplets 

The same will be true for 60 bpm, but you won’t be able to play 1/16 notes, triplets and 1/8 notes

The same is true for 120 bpm, but you won’t be able to play 1/16, triplets, 1/8 notes and 1/4 notes

The same is true for 240 bpm, if you play only whole notes

Any faster and you are leaving the Goldilocks zone.

I have all these others I'm not using. Most pictured are Wegan Big City 2.2MM and some 1.8MM and 1.4MM. Most never or hardly used.

But I notice that most of the other big names listed above, and other old school legends in GJ, from closeups videos of their picking hand, tilt their pick down, but have the pick parallel to the strings. I used to hold my pick parallel to the strings, but when I angle it slightly, it does sound like Joscho's picking. It's a bit softer and smoother though, which is what I think Joscho sounds like anyways.

Anyone else noticed this?
