Hello All, I’m new to the group and accordions. I’ve been playing guitar for 20 years. I’m actually looking to buy a used accordion locally and there is a beautiful one I need to try out. It doesn’t seem to have a brand name on it, just Italia No 18. I’ll try to add a photo here. Can anyone help with what brand this is, if they are any good, and what they should sell for? Thank you!!

I have one of these rare 3 row C system mouthblown instruments. I think I should sell it since I never use it and don't really plan to at this point. This is the exact same type of Accordina as played by Ludovic Beier and Richard Galliano, from about 1955 with very easy and quick responding brass reeds (the modern ones use sluggish stainless steel Binchi reeds usually. These require a higher operating pressure).

All the reeds work well. I had it professionally rewaxed by Michael Arralde who is a 4th generation accordion technician who is known for his outstanding work. The button mechanisms all work perfectly. Everything is in outstanding shape and it plays right at 440 with excellent intonation. These were very well made instruments. The original box with label goes with it.

The modern made Accordinas are larger in cross section, making them less ergonomic. The Dreux Accordinas are about 12 ounces heavier, and not as satisfying to play.

To get a good idea what these sound like search for "Accordina Bach" on YouTube. The one I have is identical to the one being played by Galliano, down to the engraving even.

I have about $1200 plus shipping into this instrument which is what I would like to get for it. I can ship almost everywhere. There are no CITES species on this instrument thus no restrictions.

Even though I live 15 miles south of Langley I have no plans for DjangoFest. However if someone attending wants to buy it I might be able to swing up there briefly Saturday evening before the evening concert as I will be on the Seattle side of the water.

What can you tell me about a Scandalli accordion with the following information on it?

Additionally, it seems to have a pickup, and appears to be in great condition. The seller says it dates to the fifties, but the condition is SO good that it's hard to believe. If anyone has anything to say about the playability, reputation, or value, I'd be interested.

I have not been on the forum for a while but I am not sure where else to find fellow chromatic button accordionist.
I have been designing / prototyping a MIDI controller and synth with a C-system layout. It could also be easily (software) swapped for B-system. I have all of the code and CAD drawings online for free but if anyone is interested I might do a manufacturing run.
The sounds are really simple so far but it does have some cool features, like a joystick that can bend the pitch of one note or all of them at the same time.

A440-444 Hz and playing with others???

I'm relatively new to the accordion however i do have the pleasure of being the weak link in a little Gypsy Jazz Quintet...
As i search the web for more knowledge i've found myself with this question..
Some accordions are manufactured/tuned to 443/444Hz so that they shine out a little over the other instruments...this is causing the violin player in the quintet to get the hump a little...
My question is...Do you guys get the rest of your bands to tune to A440Hz and let the accordion sing that fraction higher for effect or is it common practice for the other instruments (guitars/bass/violin) to tune up to the 444Hz of the accordion..
The other possibliltie could be the violinist is a tad fanatical as none of the other players have noticed the issue..

This is the music of Django right? Specifically where does the accordion fit in? We don't say the same things guitars do, and we don't say the things the violins do. So what do we say?
What is your approach?
Who do you copy?
Have you transcribed solos?
I really hope, we don't get alot of, 'I play long notes' answers!! Yikes. : )

I've noticed that the accordions of many of the modern French musette players have a particular sound (e.g. Michel Macias' version of Montagne Ste. Genevieve). I also hear it in Julien Labro's (of the Hot Club of Detroit) accordion. I'm wondering how they get this. I see that many of them play Cavagnolo or Fratelli Crosio accordions. The reed combination sounds like 2 middle reeds dry-tuned ("violin" register). However, there is definitely something else present in the structure of the sound that I don't hear anywhere else. I haven't yet heard it in a piano accordion. It reminds me of a chorus effect. Can anyone identify this or explain how this quality is obtained in the sound? My best guess is that it's related to the resonating chamber on the instrument (boîte de résonance). Anyone know if this is this the same thing as a "cassotto chamber"? I've also noticed that these accordions are rather expensive. Also, does anyone ever dry-tune 3 sets of middle reeds?

I actually saw a post from 2012 about. A member thinking of building accordinas in the states? Did he ever start building them? Also does anyone know where I can get a accordinas for a semi reasonable price? The exchange rate is killing me!

Chromatic Button Accordion

As I've been saving up for a C-system chromatic button accordion, I've also been looking for hints on technique so I can figure the dang thing out once I have it. Here's a bit of info for anyone doing the same.

I gather that the right hand method in the above videos is a bit modern; in most photos of '30's accordionists that I've seen, they keep the thumb on the edge of the instrument and only use their fingers on the keyboard.

In my vainglorious attempt to 'Pwn' the "other instruments" section of this forum,
I just bought one of these from the pawn shop for £170

Long story, but i ended up with an extra copy of Manu Maugain's 'Exercices techniques gammes et arpeges our accordeon'. From what i could tell it is the best (only?) method book for C-system CBAs. It is in french, but it is easy enough to follow around with an occasional online translation.
