My Geronimo Matteo built 2004 Gallato guitar is in need of new frets. I recently moved to the east coast (Maryland) and I'm trying to find someone skilled I can trust to do the job. Can anyone recommend someone in this part of the country? Maybe around Manhattan or Washington, D.C.?

Two Selmer style D-hole guitars made from solid walnut back and sides, spruce top, typical body dimensions, but one made at a medium 660mm and another long 670mm scale length.

Ergonomics aside, what are some pros and cons of each guitar?

I came very close to not getting things set up but realized I had a bum patch cable.  

It sounds fine here but the phone doesn't catch it...the amplified sound was perfect.  

Sam is playing through the NVtone and the internal piezo with IR. Either one sounds pretty good on their own but mixed together they are really amazing. The mic is a little bright by itself, the piezo a little dark after the IR. 

Both are run into a little mixing board. I would have definitely benefited by having more eq, parametric would have been the best. I only had a high and low control. 

Fapy is playing only through the humbucker, which is a Stewmac basic humbucker, I have had really good results with these.  

NVtone has these new felt dampers for the tips of the microphones and I'm hoping they might make the mic more useable on its own.  

Anyway, it was cool af. I was psyched, someone came up to me the next day and didn't realize Sam was amplified.

I have been using the Tanglewood T6 amp my entire life for gigs, but recently it's been getting quieter and hasn't had the punch that I've needed for bar gigs and medium sized venues. I wanted to get a henricksen Bud, but they have gotten really expensive. I love that the Bud is 2 channels and can connect to bluetooth. Are there any good, cheap alternatives? I use a peche, and want to get a cs sensor for context on my pickup situation.

I hoping this would be a good resource for those of us who always wonder which pick their favorite guitarist uses.

I know that all these folks can probably play with and sound like themselves with any kind of pick and that pick preference can change often, but it would still be a nice reference to have.

Here's what I have so far. I based these on watching videos or what they have said during interviews. I know some of you will point out all the errors I have made ?

I'm mostly a gypsy jazz player but after a cheap electric to achieve two things:

1. A quiet practice instrument (for playing manouche style but late at night etc)
2. An electric I can take along to a blues or straight-ahead jam if the mood takes me

Key thing is in both scenarios I want to keep my technique as consistent as possible with how I play on a selmac (broken wrist, rest stoke etc). My budget would be around $600 but curious if this might be an interesting broader discussion as I imagine others might be after the same thing at different price points - found past posts on quiet practice guitars (eg yamaha silent) but of course that doesn't double well as your only electric..

I've thought of picking up one of the Ibanez hollowbodies - they're nice guitars for the money and have closer to correct dimensions for the technique than a solid/semi-hollow, but stock they're quite bloomy and have a bit of a 'delicate' feel to them that doesn't encourage digging in. Not sure if putting a set of thick rounds on one/pumping up the action/lowering the pickups might achieve something with a bit more bark/snap & that you can hit a bit harder, but worried it might still turn out a bit too loud acoustically for late-night apartment playing. Anyone found a good solution?

Anybody tried Gypsy Guitar strings on a classical guitar? Results?

This is Michel Wegen from the Netherlands. It has been quite while since I was on a forum, and I'm trying to learn how to use this.

Anyway, I have been very busy in the past couple of months, and I think I may have developed new guitar picks.

I have made a start with some of the grooved teardrop models.

The models are the same (I hope), but the material is different, and so is the way I can produce these picks.

The available models are the Gypsyjazzpick, the GP250, Twins 2.5mm and the Twins 3.5mm. All these picks come in grey.

Since I don't play any musical instruments myself, I'm looking for testing players. I'll supply free picks, in exchange for honest, good and bad, feedback on this Djangobooks forum.

I was thinking about five serious testing players for each model.

i just wanted to share a ongoing questionable experience with Ari at AJL. I read some time ago about how often people have experienced communication issues but I didn’t hear the warnings. I reached out to him originally in early 2024. Very quick to respond when an order was on the line. I ordered a quiet and portable that was due for delivery in September October. I heard nothing and followed up over those months with lack of responsiveness.

Unfortunately, a medical situation happened in my family to where I could no longer move forward with the order. This would not have been a problem if things would’ve been on time. He finally indicated that the Guitar was done the week after Christmas and ready for delivery. I informed him that I could not move forward because of my current circumstance and we came to an agreement that he would sell the Guitar and offer a refund.. I suggested a partial refund for his time and energy considering, seemed more than fair. Like paying him commission to sell his own new build.

He said he had a potential buyer on the line back in March and ever since he has not responded to over 10 email inquiries about the updated status. I upped emails to weekly asking if anything is wrong to simply checking. Nothing.

I have since paid in full for the guitar in May and was told at least twice the guitar would ship that week (May June 2025) but upon replying to this inquires no responses to very reasonable timeframes and expectations he is setting.

Martin Taylor and Nigel Price also play them apparently.

Fibonacci seem to making a name for themselves in in jazz guitar field.

It seems consistent, every time I've tried them over the years, they feel awful. Does anyone really like them? I'm always shocked at how bad they feel.

I'm still working out some details on this guitar, I'm interested to see how it will feel with Argentines.

That does leave the complication of having to record your own IR profiles on your computer to load on there, which the fancier pedals handle natively. Previously there was a very convoluted way of doing it yourself by recording them in a DAW and trying to figure out how to run Cuki's IR Generator. After a few run throughs of this draining process, I decided that someone should make a simple drag n drop web site to do this processing for you.

Visit this website: Vic’s IR Generator. Note that this site is hosted on a free tier on Render, so might take a bit to load for the first time (50 seconds or so). Once loaded, you can drag and drop your source wav files and it will spit out your IR file, along with a handy graph (see below) showing how accurate it is!

Krivo micro manouche. I'm a huge fan of Krivo pickups and use them exclusively on my gypsy jazz guitars. The micro manouche is my favorite one yet (Jason knocked it out of the park with this one). I love how easily it goes on & off the guitar and how I never have to fret (pun intended) about feedback.

Once I get up to speed, prepare for some serious Django Banjo!!!
