1993 Dunn Stardust ***NEW PRICE***

Here is a wonderful short scale Oval hole guitar by the illustrious Vancouver, B.C. builder Michael Dunn. This very experienced and capable luthier has a career that stretches back to the late 60s. As far as anyone knows, Michael was the first North American luthier to make Selmer inspired guitars.

While Michael's instruments are clearly based on Mario Maccaferri's original designs, they are much more than mere copies. Always unique, Michael's guitars are a breath of fresh air in the very conservative world of Selmer guitars. His willingness to experiment with materials, design, and aesthetics appeals to those looking for something different.

This beautiful Stardust model features a short 640mm scale, 14 fret neck, and a petite 15" body. The top is Douglas fir, the back and sides are amanta, and the neck is mahogany.. This guitar features beautiful Brazilian rosewood binding and headstock veneer, an ebony fingerboard, rosewood bridge, Grover tuners, and "bridged" moustache pieces which reduce dampening. A bigtone pickup has been installed. The small dimensions of this guitar are particularly well suited to those who are uncomfortable with larger Selmer type guitars.

Anecdotally, I should mention that my very first Gypsy guitar was a Dunn Stardust model, nearly identical to this one for sale (it's the guitar you see me holding in the Gypsy Picking book and is the guitar that was used on the CD.)

Don't let the small size of this guitar fool you, it's got projection galore! Michael Dunn has said to me many times that the smallest guitars are often the best, and this fine example readily supports that theory. It is very loud but not harsh at all. It has very lush, thick mids that make your leads sound thick and complex. Chords have a wonderful richness that really comes out when playing chord melody pieces. Not to beat a dead horse here, but if you're looking for a lot of volume, this is your guitar! It just seems to defy physics, producing a torrent of sound that would normally require an amplifier (or two!)

This instrument is in very good condition. It has a a lot of pickwear on the top, a few small dings on the body, and some of the finish has rubbed off the back. The frets have moderate wear. Otherwise, this instrument is well preserved and plays like butter, with astonishingly low 2.4mm action.

Michael Dunn has been retired for some time now and no longer builds standard models like the Stardust. This is a great opportunity to own one of Michael's gems at a very reasonable price.
